A concert of music from Rachmaninov, Max Reger,

Ola Gjeilo, Rheinberger,

Bortniansky and Carl Orff

Aliquando will give our audience a rare opportunity to hear the whole exciting 'Carmina Burana' by Carl Orff. You may recognise 'O Fortuna' which is one of the 24 of the 254 poems found in the medieval collection Carmina Burana, a manuscript composed of 11th –13th century poems and dramatic texts, believed to be written by students and clergy in Italy and Western Europe for traveling scholars, universities and theologians.  The collection of texts was discovered in 1803 in the Benedictine monastery of Benediktbeuern in Bavaria (Germany)

The dramatic nature of “O Fortuna” the first movement of Orff's setting of ''Carmina Buran'a has carried it to new and unexpected fame, as its been used to dramatic effect in numerous films since. However that doesn’t mean it can no longer be appreciated in the context of chorale artistry. Make sure the date is in your diary to hear Aliquando take the piece out of the movies and back to its antecedent setting.
